Despair In An Afghan Poppy Field

My seventh completed painting and my first at abstract. This painting was adapted from a photograph of a soldier from B Company during our 2009 tour in Afghanistan. It is striking at how alone and separated he looks in the photo.

The majority of soldiers are stoic during operations but I know how frightening and despairing it does feel for them. I wanted to show this angst in some way and was inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2 and A1.
